Cecconi’s Flinders Lane Restaurant & Cellar Bar Relaunch

Cecconi’s Restaurant & Cellar Bar relaunched their iconic venue on 26 March, 2014, following a stunning refurbishment undertaken by Mollard Interiors.

Mollard Interiors was briefed to create a contemporary yet authentic Italian space for the Cecconi’s Cellar Bar. They decided to keep the colour palette restricted to black, white and copper yet incorporated varying textures and tones to create contrast.

Mollard Interiors wanted the space to feel familiar, warm and contemporary while reinforcing that Cecconi’s is a long-standing family run business.

The white wash timber tables with copper edging – made by Don, Maria’s husband (keeping it in the family!), combined with the black bentwood chairs, low black dome pendant lights and copper wall lights – create an inviting space. Patrons are reminded that Cecconi’s is an authentic Italian restaurant by the wall of family photos, and some of the produce they use displayed in black steel carriageways above the bar and open kitchen.

On the night guests enjoyed a gorgeous selection of canapés matched with Aperol spritzes before being seated to enjoy a 5 course degustation dinner with matching wines. Seasonal Victorian produce starred in the impressive menu that was absolutely mouth-watering! The courses were; (1)  Risotto, freshly shaved black truffles, parmesan, truffle oil (served with 2013 Bellvale Pinot Grigio Gippsland, Vic); (2) Chatham Island Blue Cod, confit tomato, fennel, fried zucchini flower, aged balsamic (served with 2010 Bellvale ‘Athena’s Vineyard’ Chardonnay Gippsland, Vic); (3) Twice cooked duck, sweet potato puree and lime (served with 2012 Bellvale Pinot Noir Gippsland, Vic); (4) Caramel pannacotta, wild fig cake, macadamia ice cream (served with 2013 Montevecchio Moscato by Chalmers Heathcote, Vic); (5) Formaggio, with pear, dried fruits, quince paste, crackers (served with 2009 Bellvale ‘The Quercus Vineyard’ Pinot Noir Gippsland, Vic); Ristretto Origin India caffe.
